Duties

Collects and evaluates information from military personnel, their families, and other users for referral to appropriate staff and/or outside agency, whether on base or off base. Provides support in the conduct of the Air Force Aid Program. Provides intake and assessment of Food Pantry requests. Assist summer hires, volunteers, and/or VA work-study personnel by training and distributing workload evenly among receipt area workers. Any work related to receiving, scheduling, referring, and contacting members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the general public. Uses a variety of office automation hardware, software, and peripherals in the performance of family support functions and performs other clerical support work.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, GS-0186 series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities. Provides information and family services to support single and married personnel, civilian employees, and family members. Provides background information of FSC programs, services, requirements and procedures. Collect, maintain and evaluate data on programs and services. Conduct primary interviews and evaluations. Assess appropriateness of assistance and make referrals to Air Force Aid Officer. Ensure all related paperwork is maintained, accurate and current IAW guidelines. Discuss procedures and eligibility with clients, first sergeants and commanders. Maintains food pantry stock and food purchases. Receives callers and visitors to ascertain the nature of their request and provide information that address routine or procedural issues. Use word processing equipment to prepare forms, form letters, and documents. Update databases or spreadsheets to retrieve data for standard reports using graphics software. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position; OR included a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of proper interview techniques and the ability to use tact and diplomacy. Knowledge of word processing automation software functions to produce a variety of textual documents, such as letters, reports, memos, and form letters. 2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to include composing non-technical correspondence. Knowledge of the organization and its functions sufficient to process incoming and outgoing mail. 3. Knowledge of Air Force Aid Program requirements and procedures. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required. A minimum of 40-wpm proficiency is required. 4. Knowledge of common clerical practices and office routines such as referring visitors and callers; routing correspondence by name and functional area, obtaining requested material from files and keeping time and attendance records. Ability to motivate and work well with others in a team setting. 5. Knowledge of filing system and the subject matter content of the materials being processed sufficiently to classify, retrieve and dispose of materials. Knowledge of travel regulations, procedures and practices sufficient to prepare travel authorization and vouchers. 6. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax and required formats to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports. Ability to make arrangements for such things as travel, conferences, and meetings. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
