You will serve as a Machinist Work Leader in the Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic, FRCMA (VRT) Department of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER.

Duties

You will lead teams of other artisans, ensuring that work is accomplished within schedule and according to all prints and requirements. You will serve as a liaison between the other artisans and the supervisor, requiring the need to communicate work requirements and inform the supervisor of any production issues or delays You will manufacture parts and equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metal and other materials. You will machine surfaces at unusual or compound angles and set up and operate conventional, computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, milling machines, vertical and horizontal mills, radial drills, thread grinders, and lathes. You will determine speeds, feeds and coolants, lubricants or abrasives to be used to cut, turn or finish an item. You will utilize precision measuring devices such as vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, height gages, squares, surface gages, dial indicators, etc. and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Assigning immediate tasks to shop personnel and monitor work in progress to ensure procedures, methods, and practices are consistent with policy; 2) Recognize overall effects of design changes during processing and anticipate flaws in theoretical design. 3) Develop labor hours and material requirement estimates for the manufacture, assembly, disassembly, overhaul, repair, installation, and test of Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE). 4) Determining the right type of tool steel, rake, and clearance angles needed on a cutting tool to machine surfaces at unusual or compound angles; 5) Using conventional machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinders, and auxiliary tool attachments; 6) Performing machining work in the manufacture of castings, forgings, weldments, and other fabrications; 7) Making independent interpretation and translation of work orders, drawings, and specifications to complete assigned tasks.
